Barely Lit Dune
When I arrived at the dunes at Mesquite Flat, the sun was obscured by high clouds and without shadows from a low-angled sun, the ripples on these dunes were completely unremarkable at best. But I saw an open slot in the clouds near the horizon and sat down and waited for 15 minutes. Sure enough, the sun eventually crept through and instantly the dunes lit up and the ripples transformed.

The last remnants of the high winds that had come up overnight were still blowing up the sand on the edge of the dune field and Mesquite Flat. It had cleared the dunes of all human footprints and created amazing ripple patterns.
